Our Mission

We are creating a safe, welcoming space where individuals can find healing and strength. Through counseling, peer support, and holistic wellness programs, we help people overcome trauma and addiction while building healthier, more balanced lives. Our approach combines compassion with cultural understanding so that every person feels seen, supported, and empowered in their journey.

Healing Through Compassion

We believe creativity and culture are powerful tools for healing. At SSA, we offer workshops in art, music, storytelling, and traditional crafts, alongside language revitalization and land-based teachings led by Elders. These programs reconnect people to Sahtu Dene and Métis heritage, inspire self-expression, and strengthen cultural identity, fostering pride that carries forward into future generations.

Revitalizing Art & Culture

We are more than a healing center — we are a community hub. SSA brings people together through events, mentorship, and shared learning opportunities that build resilience, independence, and unity. By supporting one another, we create stronger families, healthier relationships, and a vibrant, self-sustaining community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

How it all started

The SSA was born out of a simple but powerful vision: to create a safe space in the Sahtu region where people could heal, reconnect with their culture, and grow together as a community.

It started with conversations among community members who saw the urgent need for support around trauma, addiction, and mental health — challenges deeply rooted in intergenerational struggles and made harder by the lack of local services. Out of those conversations came the idea for a healing center that would be more than just recovery — it would also be a place for wellness, arts, and community connection.
